Is It Normal To Have Tickling Sensation Below Incision Site After Hernia Surgery?

i just had inguinal hernia surgery two weeks ago to date, and the last couple of days i am having a tickling sensation right below my incision. My incision was on my right side, and it starts about an inch and a half above my penis and continues to the right about three inches. is this normal? or something to consider? im really eager to get back to work and training and don t want to jeopardize myself and more time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes it is possible to have tingling sensation at incision site and it is normal in most cases.

It is common to feel some tingling, numbness or itching sensation at and around incision and sutures site. When surgeon makes incision he will cut across nerve fibers causing altered sensation around the area.

Nerve fibers regenerate over few months and the sensation will be returned. Your tingling sensation may come down.

Take vitamins rich food and supplements to increase recovery time.

Depending upon the surgery done (open or Laparoscopic) and your doctors advice, you can return to work.

Take adequate rest, don't indulge in strenuous work which increase pressure inside abdomen.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Thank You,
Dr. Narasimha G L
