Is It Normal To Have Blood In Saliva When Suffering From Diabetes?

My father is in his early 50s. He is a diabetic since the past 13 years. We have recently witnessed blood mixed with saliva on his pillow. His mouth remains slightly opened when he is asleep. Should we consult a doctor immediately or its a normal happening for diabetics? Please reply asap.
