Dear repeated tonsillitis more than 3 episodes in a year is a indication for tonsillectomy.
Indications for tonsillectomy:
1.Enlarged tonsils that cause upper
airway obstruction, severe dysphagia, sleep disorders, or cardiopulmonary complications
2.
Peritonsillar abscess that is unresponsive to medical management and drainage documented by surgeon, unless surgery is performed during acute stage
3.Tonsillitis resulting in febrile convulsions
Tonsils requiring biopsy to define tissue pathology.
relative contraindications
1.Three or more tonsil infections per year despite adequate medical therapy
2.Persistent foul taste or breath due to
chronic tonsillitis that is not responsive to medical therapy
3.Chronic or
recurrent tonsillitis in a streptococcal carrier not responding to beta-lactamase-resistant antibiotics
4.Unilateral tonsil hypertrophy that is presumed to be neoplastic.
dear swollen tonscil may cause dysphagia during eating and swallowing. avoid cool drinks and freeze water,salt water gargling.
