Is It Advisable To Switch To Galvus?

Hello Doctor, I am 67 years old and a diabetic for 10 years now. Initially I was having Fasting 130 and PP 180. Recently for the past 1 year it has been going upto 300 on PP and 160 on fasting. I have been on diet and exercise. I am taking Metformin with Glimepride tablets twice a day of 2 mg (Gluconorm G2) There is no weight loss. Sometimes I have a tendency to eat sweets and icre creams when I attend various functions. Is it advisable to switch to Galvus 50.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Glimepride is a sulphonyurea and can cause weight gain not weight loss.

Metformin can help with weight loss or help to maintain normal weight, does not cause gain.
Weight loss would not be expected to occur with the combination.

The use of the sweets and ice creams would also prevent weight loss and would contribute to any abnormal readings.
It would be best to avoid these foods or limit their use to no more than a very small amount once monthly or less.

Instead of switching to galvus, you may need to add it to your current regimen.
It can be used with your current medication. Based on your readings, it is unlikely that galvus alone would be enough.

I hope this helps
