•     Case Study Kathy is a 29‐year‐old woman with a six‐year history of heroin use. •     She has recently ended a four year relationship with a man who uses heroin on a daily basis. •     He has been physically violent towards her on several occasions in the past. •     Kathy has just found out she is about nine weeks pregnant. She has been reducing her heroin use over the past six months. •     She states she would like to continue with the pregnancy but feels she cannot remain abstinent from heroin. She still wants to use, and •     has not yet told her ex‐boyfriend that she is pregnant. •     She also feels she cannot remain living in the flat that she and her ex‐boyfriend have been renting as she cannot afford the rent on her own‐she is already behind in the rent. •     Kathy wants your help but she is not sure what kind of help she needs. •     Her parents and siblings live in the same city but she thinks they don t want anything to do with her.
