Diabetologist 's  Response
Hello, Thanks for the query.
Gestational diabetes invariably does go away following the delivery. But these patients are prone to get T2 DM later in life.
Blood glucose fasting 118 is abnormal, but falls in the pre-diabetic category. (FBG 108 to 125 mg & PP 141 to 199 mg, & HbA1c% 5.9 to 6.4 ). Therefore, presently there is no diabetes, however, you will have to take precautions like controlled diet, avoiding sweets (not too much), deep fried foods, pastries, bakery items, foods made out of maida and high fat milk products.
You will also have to exercise regularly and maintain near normal weight . Plus refrain form alcohol and smoking as well as colas. In other words by adapting a modified lifestyle you will be able to postpone or prevent the development of diabetes. Thanks.
