Is Damage To Thyroid By Antibodies Irreversible?

I'm seeing an endocrinologist about my thyroid. My
thyroid looks rough in the sonar gram. I was told it
was damaged by antibodies and it is most likely
not reversible. I did not feel good on T4 medication
(levothyroxine, 75 mcg tablets) so I stopped taking it
after 30 days. I had blood drawn today
for testing my TSH, Antibodies & my thyroid levels
and am waiting for results. Is that true? And why
can't I take iodine (kelp) supplements? I was told
it would be toxic to my thyroid.

Hi Thanks for posting your query
Yes the damage is irreversible. But don't be disheartened as the other undamaged portion of thyroid can take over the whole function.
Iodine supplements by themselves along will not help. It will help only if you are iodine deficient . I advise you to continue levothyroxine.
