Is Coughing And Shortness Of Breath Sign Of Sub Acute Thyroiditis?
I seem to have all the symptoms of subacute thyroiditis. Have been to the doctor and had blood tests, which showed low TSH, etc. Diagnosis pending, but I m trying to research all I can in the meantime. I ve had about 6 weeks of neck tenderness, painful swallowing, and daily fevers. When I read the symptoms of subacute thyroiditis, it seems a perfect fit. However, about two weeks ago I suddenly also developed a nagging, shallow cough that never lets up and leaves me short of breath. The only hyperthyroid disease I can find that includes a cough is thyroid cancer. My question is, Is this sort of cough ever associated with subacute thyroiditis?

Subacute thyroiditis is a self-limited, inflammatory thyroid disease which presents with neck pain or neck tenderness, painful swallowing, and subfebrile temperature (like in your case).
The condition is attributed to viral infection and it may last from few weeks to few months.
Cough is not a symptom that can be related to subacute thyroiditis. About the association between thyroid diseases and cough, I can say that a large goiter or a thyroid nodule on the backside of the thyroid can cause a cough and make it difficult for you to swallow or breathe (but this is not your case).
My advice for you is to consult a pulmologist because the most common cause(apart acid reflux) that cause cough is a lung or upper respiratory tract disease.
