Is Conception Possible During Menstrual Bleeding Cycle?

I was just wondering if you can get pregnant after ejaculation occurs and you then put in a tampon? Because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I'm currently menstrating so we had intercourse and afterwards I put in a new tampon. So I'm just wondering if it will still work or if it just gets absorbed.
