Is Cocoa Intake Advisable For A Person Suffering With Ulcerative Colitis?

can people with chrones disease or ulcerative colitis eat raw chocolate/coaco? I have been recently diagnosed with either chrones disease or ulcerative colitis, they found a mild ulcer in the low area of my bowel. food worries me, I am healthy but I like to treat myself sometimes. I cant help but think that food is doing more damage but my doctor told me food would not be an issue for me, I don t believe that. I just want some answers. and I m scared my ulcer might one day move uoward and get bigger. please help. kind regards

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the cocoa consumption effects depend upon amount consumed with duration of intake. The low amount of raw cocoa can be allowed for person with inflammatory bowel condition if no history of sensitivity.

Regular use of moderate to high doses of raw cocoa may be of concern to bring constipation issue, not good on clinical perspectives as that will hamper the control of ulcerative collitis.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
