What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Ulcerative Colitis?

Hello, If someome took masamamine meds (Lialda) for suspected symptoms of ulcerative colitis but didn t really have ulcerative colitis, end up with ulcerative colitis after several years of taking this medication? The reason I ask is the side effects listed for these meds include ulcerative colitis. Why would someone prescribe meds for the very condition they are trying to treat? Carol

Mesalamine (Lialda) is indicated for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. The information regarding how the diagnosis is made is not mentioned. If it is done after standard investigations, then most likely you are suffering from ulcerative colitis.
I hope you are symptomatic free all these years is mostly due to mesalamine. But one of the side effect of mesalamine is the exacerbation of colitis. You could be experiencing the exacerbation now. You can consult your gastroenterologist for alternatives. Hope the above information solves your query. Thanks.
