Is Clear Fluid Discharge Without Periods While Breastfeeding Normal?
I had gave birth nearly five months ago via cesarean section. My baby is fully breast feed. I have not had a period yet but am now experiencing what I can only say feels like a period without the pain but the fluid is clear and there is a lot of it. Should I be worried?
Thank you for consulting in HealthCareMagic. You need not get worried as it is absolutely normal. Lactational amenorrhea is a physiological entity wherein the periods do not occurs while you breast feed the baby. The suckling of the baby provides a stimulus that prevents the generation of a normal preovulatory LH surge which is otherwise responsible for ovulation and in its absence, the ovarian follicles either fail to rupture, or become atretic or cystic. In a nutshell, during breast feeding, the ovarian follicles do not mature and hence the cycles do not occur. Only when the suckling stimulus declines sufficiently to allow generation of a normal preovulatory LH surge to occur will ovulation take place and the periods will resume. Till then some clear discharge may occur. You have nothing to worry here.
