I m 47 yrs old female had a left breast mastectomy was doing chemo and oncologist stopped it due to many side effects and pain. Didn t want to give me meds for what he could. So I only receive herceptin iv and now tamoxifen. Does this put me at a higher risk factor now? What are the recovery or remission statistics?
It would have helped had you mentioned the stage of your cancer. If chemotherapy was prescribed to you and you could not take it due to side effects, then it does put you at a slightly higher risk that had you been able to complete it. The risk however is not great and in single digits. The higher your stage was, the higher is the risk of recurrence. However, it is nothing that you can change and you should stop thinking about it. Just concentrate on taking the rest of the treatment. For your information, Tamoxifen is much more instrumental in reducing the chances of recurrence than chemotherapy.
