Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Change in body smell or alcohol smell in chronic alcoholic can occur due to following reasons:
-Alcohol intoxication causing alcohol smell in breath.
-Liver problem: causing poor metabolism and leading to ammonia like smell.
-Bad body odor can also occur due to poor hygiene in chronic alcoholics.

Same time, it is better to get his liver function test done to get information about liver pathology.

Wishing you good health and all the best.
