Is Blood In Stool Common Post A Appendectomy?

Hi I had an appendectomy at the end of may. I have notice I sometimes pass blood within my stool. can you advise is this a common effect after an appendix removal as everything I have read indicates this may be a symptom but not necessarily so long after the operation

It is unusual for blood in stool to be related to appendicectomy so long after the operation. I usually see it in the first week after operation.

THis may be an unrelated cause like a polyp or some other infection. It would be worthwhile to get a stool examination done and also an detailed rectal exam by a surgeon. If there is anydoubt, they will do an endoscopy to see the cause and treat it . Please mention if you are suffering from constipation. what color is teh blood ?

Pediatrician, Surgery Dr. Anil Kumar P L's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. Blood in stool post appendicectomy is not expected, that to after a few months. The symptom is not related to your appendicectomy. Common reason for blood in stool is Anal fissure where in you will have pain while passing motion. Other reason is hemorrhoids (piles) in adults. If bleeding is persisting needs to be evaluated by by clinical examination and if required Colonoscopy. If your are less than 17 yrs meet Pediatric Surgeon or else GI surgeon.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
