Is An Wound Caused By A Rusted Nail On Foot A Cause Of Worry During Pregnancy?

a year ago i have stepped on a short nail and it was not rusty. the nail went less than 1 cm into my heel sideways. i desinfected the heel where it went in and the place healed with no complications. i almost forgot about it but after a year of the nail accident i got pregnant. at about three weeks of pregnancy i started to notice that the place where i have stepped on a nail before has now hardened a little. it was not painful, just like a harder skin on a heel surface. i asked my doctor about it and he said its not a big deal and if i am not annoyed it can stay this way until i give birth. now i am twenty weeks into my pregnancy and during the last couple of months the spot under my heel started to be more annoying. its surface has expanded. its still like a hard skin on a surface and something painful inside. for the last two days i cannot use the heel of that foot. i try not to step on the painful spot on my heel as it hurts then. so i walk on my toes on that foot. my doctor is on vacation now. i try not to use any medication during my pregnancy. please advice.

Hi,
These symptoms suggest that there may be an infection developing in the area. This is possible even after such a long time after the initial injury. However, it is impossible to be certain without seeing your foot. Therefore, I suggest you go to the ER for examination. If there is infection, then antibiotics may be prescribed. There are many antibiotics which are perfectly safe during pregnancy so do not worry.
