Amniocentesis is fairly safe at 29 weeks of pregnancy though it does carry some risks of injury to the foetus, chance of infection, etc.
Whose decision is to carry out amniocentesis on you? Please do not take your own decisions for such invasive procedure. If the Obstetrician has advised you this investigation, you may consent to it as this test will try to find out whether there is any abnormality in your foetus. The doctor will advice you this test only if he/she suspects any possibility of abnormality in the foetus.
