Is Alcohol Consumption Safe While On Propofol?

I had propofol on September 4 for a cataract extraction and intraocular lens implant. I am 70years old and 140 pounds. I do not know the dose given. Today is the day that I usually have a margarita cocktail or 4ounces of white wine, but I am apprehensive regarding any propofol in my body system interacting with the alcohol. I sent an email to my eye doctor last night, but I have not heard from her as yet. Is it too soon to have a alcoholic beverage?

Hi
I can understand your concern regarding the safety of alcohol while on Propofol.

It is not advisable for you to consume alcohol while being on Propofol.
It may depress your nervous system (drowsiness, sleepiness, difficulty in breathing, and loss of consciousness).
So, avoid taking alcohol or alcohol containing beverages like Margarita Cocktail at least 8 hours after taking Propofol.

Hope this answers your query.
