Is Accidental Ingestion Of Benzoyl Peroxide By Children A Concern?

I use benzoyl peroxide on my postpartum acne, my small tube was almost empty to where I really had to squeeze it to get some out, while I was in the shower my husband was brushing our 3 year old child’s teeth when my husband ran downstairs for one minute my 3 year old put water into my benzoyl peroxide tube and was squirting in the sink, my husband thought he had maybe squirted it in his mouth. Should we call poison control? Thanks

Hello,

Try to wash his mouth with water, give him to drink a glass of water (8 oz) and induce vomiting. Warm water can help but putting finger in the throat can also induce vomiting.

If you notice any unusual symptom, then run to ED (Emergency Department).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
