Is A Feeding Bottle Advisable For A Toddler?

My 16 month old daughter still drinks a morning bottle. She screams and cries if it is not given to her. She refuses it in a sippy and refuses any food. She also will not drink milk in a sippy cup at all throughout the day only water. I give her cheese and yogurt and oat cereal for calcium. I m concerned she won t get enough calcium, may get dehydrated without the morning bottle and people have been pressuring me to take it away from her just due to her age and development reasons. Decay is irrelevant as she mainly drinks water and only has the one bottle at one sitting and her teeth are brushed at night. What should I do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* So far as bottle feeding is concerned there are vivid opinions which differ from pediatrician to pediatrician.
* In general, at my clinic, I do detailed counselling of the parents as at age of 16 months, baby does not get all the necessary nutrients from the bottle feed, so it can be an adjunct to supportive role not the sole source of feed.
* Gradually make her to take various ingredients in juice form which are easily palatable for a child rather than raw food in various patterns.
* From hygiene point of view also, the bottle must be discontinued as early as possible.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
