Is Potassium Supplement Advisable For A Person With Heart Blockage?

I have been taking 10 mg daily of Lisinopril for 20 years with no potassium supplement. I have recently been diagnosed with heart block and am wondering if I should ask my cardiologist about taking a potassium supplement. I don t know my current potassium level but will have a blood test soon. I am a diabetic female, age 73, weight 168. Thank you, Carol

Hello,

No, you are should not take potassium supplements without blood report and cardiologist's advice.

If your blood report is suggestive of low potassium (hypokalemia) then only you need potassium supplements only after cardiologist consultation.

So don't start potassium supplements on your own because this can be life-threatening especially for cardiac patients.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
