Is nordette-21 still effective as ecp if my second dose was taken 27 hours late?Although this was my 3rd time using it, and I always took second doses 24 hours after but this is my first time taking the second dose 3hours late than usual. I took the first dose right away after having unprotected sex.

Hi,

Combined oral pills should be avoided as emergency contraceptive since they contain two hormones. Levonorgesterol and another drug is usually present. Levonorgesterol is present as low dose than that is required for emergency contraception. Hence, more number of pills may be required to attain the desired dose. Second dose should be taken 12 hours after first dose.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
