Is Marinol An Effective Alternate Drug For Arthritis ?

I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I'm in pain constantly from the arthritis. It's in my lower back, elbows, knees, fingers, toes and feet. The only relief that I get is from my opiate pain medication, currently Vicodin 7.5/325. I don't like taking opiate medications because they make me nauseated and don't work well enough for me. It scares me because I wonder how life will be like with no pain relief at all. At the same time, I know the effects of long term opiate use and physical dependencies. I am only 24 and cursed with this disease. Recently, I have read that people are managing their pain with Marinol. A lot of what I have read from patients claim they have little to no bad side effects. It says the drug may be habit forming, but I have not seen many posts about withdrawals from this drug. I'm trying to look into Marinol as an alternative therapy. I have done chiropractic therapies and physical rehabilitation and nothing else works. Is this medication safer than what I'm currently on? If so, why is this medication which is the same schedule as my current medication so hard to get prescribed to?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
My first advise would be -not to feel hopeless.Psoriatic arthritis is manageable without opiates and marinol.A new medicine has come

Newest available oral treatment for psoriatic arthritis is Otezla (apremilast). Otezla treats psoriatic arthritis by inflammatory action within cells, which can affect the level of inflammation associated with psoriatic arthritis.

By helping to control inflammation in this way, Otezla improves joint tenderness and swelling in people with active psoriatic arthritis.

Otezla is available as a 30-milligram (mg) tablet. The first five days is a start period, where the dosage will gradually increase over five days until the recommended dose of 30 milligrams twice daily is reached. Otezla is designed to be taken continuously
You may consult a rheumatologist for this
