Is HPV A Risk Even With One Partner?

I just had a papsmear done and the results is normal but they said I m positive for HPV.ive been married for 18 yrs and did not have any intercourse with anyone else. But I was sexually active before I got married. Is it possible that I got my HPV 18 yrs ago? My previous papsmear were negative for HPV. My doctor said I might have gotten it from my husband. But my husband told me that it s impossible bec he never had intercourse with anybody before we got married and while we were married. Did I possible go this from my ex 18 yrs ago and it only showed up now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you had HPV test before and it was negative then you got infected with HPV recently. Even though you may have not symptoms a HPV test can detect it if you have it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
