Is Gilbert's Syndrome Related To Deficiency Of Either Folic Acid Or Vitamin B12?

Hi, I am 11wks pregnant and have had results of recent blood test returned. I need to have an addition blood test as i am exhibiting large red blood cells. I have not drank any alcohol since conception and have been taking folic acid long before conception and now am taking pregnacare supplements. I have in the past been diagnosed with Gilberts Syndrome, which the doctor didn't realise until I spoke to him yesterday (recently changed surgeries). My question is, if having Gilberts Syndrome, could this cause the potential lack of Vitamin B12 & Folic acid?! If so, will this affect the development of the baby?!

Hi.Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Gilbert's syndrome is a common genetic liver disorder. In this disorder, there is the reduced activity of the enzyme glucuronyltransferase, which conjugates bilirubin and a few other lipophilic molecules.
So there is increased level of bilirubin in blood. Mild jaundice may appear under conditions of exertion, stress, fasting, and infections, but the condition is otherwise usually asymptomatic

There is no relation of Gilbert's syndrome & deficiency of either folic acid or vitamin B12. However gilbert syndrome can be genetically transmitted to your child.

Refer to your physician for consultation
Don't worry you would be fine
Hope this information helps.
