Is Ferrous Sulfate Effective In The Treatment Of Low Hemoglobin Levels?

i let my daughter who is an 18 yrs old take ferrous sulfate 325mg once a day during her menstruation since her hemoglobin drops when she has her period. Is it effective if i will just let her take during her menstruation and stop taking it if she does not have her period?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Yes, it is effective for some causes of anemia/low hemoglobin levels especially for these anemias caused by menstrual bleeding. But in some other such as pernicious anemias, or anemias caused by lack of vitamins, it may not be as effective. In every case, she should try with Ferrous sulfate first and if there wont be improvement, then other types of anemias should be looked for.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
