Is Clindamycin Advisable While On Advair For Chest Congestion And Heaviness?
I have chest congestion- have had asthma since teenager -- hacking up green spit - 58 years old - occasional cigar smoker --- heavyness in chest been using proair inhaler an advair - thinking possible infection? have Clindamycin on hand think I took them last time for same symptoms.

Hi,
You seem to be suffering from chest infection apparently have been caused by pseudomonas. Clindamycin is not effective against infections caused by this bacteria. Hence, I would suggest a combination of ceftazidime and ofloxacin for at least 7 to 10 days. Continue taking Advair for the symptomatic relief of chest congestion.

However, many of the viral congestion and heaviness do respond best to conservative modalities with supportive care without intake of antibiotics. I would recommend you to wait for a period of 24 hours to 48 hours after use of Advir and see for the update of the clinical condition. Later if symptoms persist, discuss the issue with your doc before initiating self antibiotic consumption.
