Is Claritin D Advisable For Cough And Throat Irritation?

Hi, My brother had a stroke and a trach was put in for a couple weeks. Prior to the stroke he smoked. Now he is living with me and my husband. He is driving us crazy with always clearing his throat and coughing and hacking. He is always drinking ice water. I have been giving him Claritin-D for the past week and a half. What else should I try????

Welcome to HCM
This is Dr Amit. I will suggest you to stop talking Claritin d as it is used for the treatment of sneezing itching and as a nasal decongestants. I will advise your brother to stop smoking and drinking ice water and take remedies for the cough which are very easily available over the counter and consult the physician if there is more severe infection
