Is Cholestyramine Safe To Be Taken While On Levothyroxine And Armor Thyroid?

I always take my levothyroxin and armor thyroid at 7am in the morning. My doctor just prescribed cholestyramine powder to be taken 3 times per day. No doubt at meal times. However the powder can interact with my thyroid medication. If I can t eat breakfast, which I usually don t, how often can I take the powder? The dosage is 1 3/4 tsp per meal.

Hello,

You need to take the other medication with a 4-hour distance from levothyroxine. You may take levothyroxine very early in the morning and eat breakfast 4 hours later.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mirjeta Guni, Endocrinologist
