What Causes Abdominal Bloating After Taking Cholestyramine?

I have been taking cholestyramine 4GM light powder since last year and am starting to have bloating and discomfort. My gastro MD has recommended Imodium. The other RX s that I m taking are Bupropion 150mg, citalopram 40mg, Irbesartan 150mg, Levothyroxine and Spiriva Respimat (inhaler). In 2008 I was diagnosed with Stage 1 colon cancer and had a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy done & 3 months later, a revision of anastomosis.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to bile acid related gastritis. It is more pronounced on the initial days of usage.

As a first line management, you can try antacids like Pantoprazole for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
