Is Benadryl The Right Medicine For Tinnitus?

My name is Brenda and I have been experiencing ringing and a high frequency sound in my ears. however when I take Benadryl, the ringing and high pitch frequency leaves. I can also feel some relief in my ears. I was told that I had Tinnitus but when I take Benadryl I feel relief. Why is that. I went to my doctor and she told me that it seemed as though allergies were the culprit, and will I have to continue to take Benadryl when the ringing returns because I feel so much better when I take it and the ringing in my ears go away.

Hi,

Tinnitus is mostly allergic in origin. That is why it disappears with Benadryl (an anti-allergic medicine). You can take it with the appearance of symptoms.

If you are comfortable. Only it is likely to cause drowsiness. So you can try with any other drug with fewer side-effects like Cetirizine.

To know the allergens by allergy detection test & avoid exposure to allergenic get yourself desensitized for the allergen would be ideal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
