Infant. Hard Stools. Breastfed Along With Toned Milk. Remedy?

My baby is 2 months old, today she was crying very much while passing hard stool as such she is having stomach ache. She is breastfed daily, but as she is a little underweight, doctor advised to give her toned milk with continuing breast milk. I am suspecting if it is the toned milk which she is having problem ti digest, as I never saw my elder daughter to have such problem who is now 3 years old. I have given her gripe water, but not much of use and she is crying more while passing hard stool. Kindly help me.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Constipation in exclusively breastfed babies around this age group is very rare.

Constipation in your baby is due to toned milk you are giving and due to its improper dilution.

I advise you to stop giving the toned milk.

Continue exclusive breastfeeding till the age of 6 months.

On breast milk, babies will have soft stools.

In spite of giving breast milk child is having hard stools, laxative can be given for once or twice with the Pediatrician advise.

So continue exclusive breastfeeding and consult your Pediatrician for the medication.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

A 2 month old baby should be given exclusive breast feeding.

Gripe water is not required to be given to these babies.

What was the weight of your baby at birth?

What is her current weight?

I request you to reply in detail so that we can discuss the matter further.
