I have diarrhea, had 25-30 almonds a day

I eat a diet that is generally high in fiber. I try to eat 25-30 almonds a day to help with my cholesterol; however, when I add the almonds my system goes crazy and I get severe abdominal cramping and diarrhea . Without the almonds, my bowel movements are very regular. What is going on?

Hi, welcome to healthcaremagic forum.
Whenever u take 15-20 almonds u get diarrhoea, it is clear that u are overeating. Whenever taken, u must take not more than 5 almonds in a day. U can increase fibre in your diet through wheat(rotis), rice, fruits, salads and vegetables. Alöng with this also try to start ur day not with tea but some dry things like biscuits, roti, etc. Take care.

General & Family Physician Dr. Sheetal's  Response

Your symptoms suggest that you may be allergic to almonds.

An allergic reaction to almonds begins with a tingling sensation in the mouth. Shortly after, abdominal cramps or diarrhea may occur.

You may require a prescription of an anti-histaminic medication. It is advisable to avoid almonds in the future.
