How To Withdraw From Rivotril?

hello - I am 67 years old (woman) and I have been taking rivotril 0.5mg for the last 20 years, but I have never taken 1 whole pill. I take 1/4 of 0.5 at night - how can I stop them. I asked my doctor but he couldn help me. I know I can t stop them all at one by I am afraid of the side effects. It s the only pill I take - I have no sickness - I took this pill cause I had panick attacks - (excuse my english, I am doing my best). I don t fell good when I wake up in the morning - I am kind short of breath and my muscles hurt. Can you help me please?

hi madam,
welcome to health care magic,

I can certainly understand your concern towards your withdrawal symptoms, it mainly a benzodiazepine that acts on GABA neurotransmitter, due to continuous and persistent use of this drug causes tolerance, due to which down regulation of GABA occurs, this is the actual reason for your withdrawal symptoms.
The abrup stoppage of this drug increases the GABA and may result in seizures, which is not at all advisable, but as you are on minimal dose , it is not so difficult to taper it

I can advise you some drugs like mirtazapine to combat your anxiety and sleep and try to taper your RIVOTRIL to 0.25 mg after 3 days and try to stop completely in the next 3 days, you can consult your doctor for further instuctions, hope this information would help you

post your further questions if any, thank you
I find this answer helpful
