How To Treat The Swollen And Sore Varicose Caused By A Hit?

I have varicose veins and this weekend 2 dogs were playing and ran into me pretty hard, my vein popped out and became swollen. I applied ice to the area for about an hour, its now black and blue but still very sore. What should I do?

Hi, that can happen. When a varicose vein gets injured it gets ruptured due to its thin wall and bleeds. It can either bleed outside if there is a skin break or it can bleed under the surface causing a blood collection called hematoma which you have. It will get better in a week or two. You can apply a compression bandage and take pain medicine if it is very painful. Ideal treatment would be to get operated for the varicose veins with minimally invasive techniques like Laser or RF. You can discuss the same with your Doctor. Take care.
