How To Treat The Coughing Spells?

I have had a cough for 2 months...it started with what seemed to be a common cold. But I can't get rid of this cough...it comes in spells...It can be triggered by just speaking. The doctor gave me a scrip for cough syrup in the beginning....it hasn't worked....help

I can understand your concern.
You are having chronic cough (cough for more than 2 weeks).
So we should definitely rule out lung infection and bronchitis in your case.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection. PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
You may need antibiotics, inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
