How To Treat The Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Except With Radiation?

Are there any proven adjunctive therapies in the treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma besides my upcoming resection (10/24/11)and radiation? Any promising research? U.S. or Europe? I am a female in my 60's with a history of stage 1 breast cancer. (weight issues, hypthyroid, light diabetes) Thank you.

Hi,

After hearing your history

I feel to treat adenoid cystic carcinoma through anti-angiogenesis therapy. It is a type of targeted therapy. It is focused on stopping angiogenesis, which is the process of making new blood vessels. Because a tumor needs the nutrients delivered by blood vessels to grow and spread, the goal of anti-angiogenesis therapies is to “starve” the tumor.

Targeted therapy is a treatment that targets the cancer’s specific genes, proteins, or the tissue environment that contributes to cancer growth and survival. Currently, targeted therapies are being developed that may be useful in the treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma.

Regards,
Dr. Monish De, Oncologist
