How To Treat Swollen Throat?

I got my tonsils removed in May because of chronic tonsillitis. A few times since then, I've been feeling very ill. My throat feels swollen and sometimes it is single sided. Currently, I have a green lump in the back of my throat that I can feel every time I swallow. I also have a lot of green mucus when I blow my nose. What could it be? Thanks!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swollen throat because of chronic tonsillitis ( bacterial or viral infection ). It is leading to upper respiratory tract infection. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 3 to 4 times a day. Take ibuprofen one tablet twice daily. Milk boiled with a pinch of turmeric taken at bedtime for can be relieving as it has antimicrobial properties. You should avoid spicy food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and examination with laryngoscope . Doctor may prescribe anti bacterial or anti viral depending upon the diagnosis , if condition doesn't get better with medicine then doctor may recommend tonsillectomy . Take soft foods to avoid irritation to the throat. Throat lozanges one every 4 hours is helpful. Drink luke warm water throughout the day as it can provide relief.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
