How To Treat Small Cell Lung Cancer?

Hi..My FIL is small cell lung cancer (extensive). Have undergone chemo and now on radiation. He is diabetic also and with this radition his blood sugar is going very high inspite of increasing insulin (12-16 units). IS this a cause of worry? Or once this radiation gets over, it will be subside itself? There are no symptoms as such like swelling or weakness which otherwise happen. THis radition has to be continued for next 9 days with sat-sun break. Radiation includes Dexona 8mg.

Hello dear. I have gone through your details. The cause of high blood sugar is the steroid(dexona) being given with radiation. This is not a cause of worry but needs to be taken care of by increasing the amount of insulin. It will come down to previous level gradually once the radiation is over. However blood sugar will again rise as he is having small cell disease which is aggressive and requires some form of chemotherapy always , hence steroids need to be given again. You have to be regular in touch with a diabetologist. Hope this makes you clear.
