How To Treat Severe Pain In Heel And Foot While Suffering From Acute Nerve Sciatica?

Hi I have a herniated disc L5/S1 and severe acute sciatica nerve that just keeps getting worse. I can t get comfortable. I have severe pain in my heel, top of my foot and in my calf and butt area. All the home rehab stuff I have been told to do is not helping. Going from laying down to standing especially in the morning is so incredibly painful. I ve been told surgery is my only option. I am on gabapentin. No improvement. What would you recommend?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Prolapse of disc or disc herniation can be treated with medication only up to an extent. As per your description, all the conservative modalities have failed to help you. I would recommend you to undergo surgery. With the advancement of medical sciences, the result of surgery is pretty good these days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
