What Causes Severe Pain In The Feet?

I was diagnosed about 5 weeks ago with sciatica. Since then the hip and leg pain have subsided for the most part, however, my foot is in pain almost constantly. Even the bed sheets touching it is painful. Was it really sciatica or is there something else going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Increased pain sensitivity or increased sensitivity of the skin is called hyperesthesia. It is possible that this is linked to the sciatica since sciatica means that there the sciatic nerve which is a major nerve in the lower limbs is affected.

You should let your doctor know about this symptom that you are experiencing. If you did not previously have any imaging such as x rays, this would need to be done. There are medications that can help to treat nerve related symptoms such as gabapentin, lyrica, tegretol, amitriptyline, nortriptylineI.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
