How To Treat Muscle Twitches In Knees, ankles And Thighs Naturally?

I am gettng muscle twitches/spasms in the knees, ankles, thighs at tnight as I m about to drop off to sleep. It keeps me awake. A friend said she had a friend who had something similar, was told it was caused by a deficiency of calcium, magnesium & potassium, that he started a supplement, problem solved. I would rather solve this by natural means, rather than meds/supplements, Will some dietary changes help to relieve this? I am 73 y/o, am doing well after a 9 mo. old hip fx, exercise w water aerobics 3 x wk. Any suggestions? Ann P. White

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The muscle twitches are bilateral I suppose. The twitches may be because of other ailments also so please get screened for diabetes and thyroid disorders, I would also suggest you to get serum calcium and Vit D3 levels, vitamin B12 levels checked. The natural alternatives are fruits, nuts, milk, eggs, fish and green leafy vegetables.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shubir Walter Abraham, General & Family Physician
