How To Treat Itching In Wounds Of Diabetic Patient?

I am helping an older lady dress her weeping leg wounds. I don t think what we are doing is working. We wash with saline and gauze 2 times per day. We put non-stick pads on and then she wears teds. She is diabetic. The wounds look red and weeping clear or red fluids. The itching she experiences is unbearable. We have tried anti jock itch cream suggested by a visiting nurse. Is there anything we can do different.
