How To Treat Herpes?

Hi Doctor, I am a male 53 years old. I was married for 26 years. In 2005, I went to my MD of 30 years, now retired, because i started having blister in my genital area. After a swap test, he called me with the news that I had Herpes. Long story, I had an infection through my ex-wife. I have been divorced for 2.5 years and now and in a relation but I am holding sex. Honestly, I do not want to open this can of worms with my new girl friend but I do not want to ruin her life either. Per my research, it is not cure for herpes. What are my options? I will be seeing a new MD at beginning of May and I would like to go in prepare. Thank you for your help in advance.

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

You should try and have protected sex with your partner to avoid any risk of infecting her. Herpes is most infectious during the episode of flare and the chance of infecting your sexual partners are highest during this phase however, no matter what, unprotected sex even during clinical inactivity can infect your sexual partner.

So, the best way to decrease the chances of infection in your sexual partner is to practice safe sex with a condom, as much as possible.
