How To Treat Gerd?

My friend has a ca+ serum level of 14! and a 9.5 cm mass on his spleen. Gerd symptoms over a 6 mos period and weight loss prompted him seeking medical advice. He lost 20 #'s over a 3 week period because of pressure on diaphragm, esophogus...pain when eating etc. Just started receiving IV therapy to decrease Ca+ levels before biopsy or other diagnostics can be preformed aside from CAT scan. His MD says it is treatable and will gradually (over approx a year's time) diminish in size and not be detectable at all per scan. Are these masses typically benign and is this usually the case? He is 63, 5'10" was 160 # and in general good health, mother died of chronic leukemia at 68, father of non discript motor neuronal disease with cardiac complications. age 72.

Hi! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Although the treating doctor might have started symptomatic treatment for the present, the exact diagnosis and management could be planned by him only after a detailed clinical examination with all the related investigations, specially with the history of chronic leukemia in case of his mother. It might not be possible to opine on such problem without a clinical examination and reports of the investigations. Therefore, I would advise you to wait patiently for the reports of his investigations, and go with the treatment of the doctor at present.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your friend's problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on health problems. I wish him an early recovery. Dr Shareef
