How To Treat Diverticulitis With Vomit While On Ciproflaxocin And Metronidazole?

I have diverticulitis and was diagnosed 4 days ago. im taking ciproflaxocin and metronidazole. on the 3rd evening I threw up and today as well. I feel weak and water hasn t stayed down today,yet I haven t drank much in fear of throwing up more. should I start feeling better after 4 days of antibiotics. plus in the ER on sunday they gave me IV antibiotics.

Hi,

I understand your problem and fear. The symptoms that you are experiencing may be due to diverticulitis or an undesired effect of drugs especially metronidazole.

Not eating or drinking is not a solution as it will make you more weak. I suggest that you take an antaacid like omeprazole along with tablet domperidone or if the vomiting is severe, tablet ondensetron. Try to eat probiotics like yogurt and semisolid food like rice gruel or oatmeal gruel or soup that does not contain any spices. Eat and drink in small quantities at small intervals till you regain your energy.

You will feel better after the antibiotics are discontinued as by that time they will have had their effect as well as the undesired effects like metallic taste and nausea would disappear.
