Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding post operative cough after your tonsillectomy operation two days back.

Here I would like to tell you that in tonsillectomy post operative cough develops due to-

1- Irritation in throat due to endotracheal intubation for general anesthesia.

2- Pharyngeal oedema due to surgical trauma.

3- Infection- Of throat and chest.

Among these above two are self limiting and they will clear up in two to three days and only post operative infection demands for special care.

I think you at present you were in the treatment of your surgeon as only two days are passed of surgery so you may just add any cough sedative to your prescription and you will get relief, otherwise consult your surgeon.

Regards.
