How To Treat Burning Sensation On Legs While Suffering From Spinal Stenosis?
I have spinal stenosis where the burning pain radiates down my legs especially at the ankles. I take gabapentin which helps somewhat. I am terrified of a laminectomy as i live alone and my finances are minimun. Is there any thing i can do besides surgery; I have completed the epidurals with little results, but I am willing to go through another series. Am I hurting myself further by walking & driving & stsnding with a 5 to 7 pain level.
Best modality is surgery. On the long run it is the less riskier and more economical option considering other treatment modalities. Acupuncture and Ayurveda can provide temporary relief for pain but weakness will be there. And those are only temporary. Painkillers can help to relieve pain, physiotherapy and spinal exercises can help. In acute pain icepacks are better and for long term constant pain, pain relieving gels and heat application can help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Jeevan Jayakumar, General & Family Physician
