Hi,

Usually the menstrual period with a length of 2 to 7 days can be considered as normal only. Minor changes in the length of the menstrual period and the amount of the flow can be seen frequently due to the fluctuations in the reproductive hormone levels. Regestrone tablets are progesterone containing tablets, these tablets can help in reducing the blood flow by acting on the endometrium and if they have taken in cyclical manner they will help in regularization of menstrual cycles.

Generally, what we prefer is, as this is the first time you are having the lengthy menstrual period, this time you can try anti-fibrinolytic drugs to control the bleeding and if this menorrhagia repeats in next menstrual cycles, you can go for progesterone tablets on a cyclical basis. If used in cyclical basis only for few months, usually Regestrone tablets will not affect the menstrual cycles or the fertility.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
