Coumadin is used to prevent strokes that can result from A fib. It does not treat the irregular heartbeat. There are a number of medicines that can be used for this. Some people with A fib can have bad symptoms of fatigue and weakness related to decreased heart output from the rhythm abnormality. Controlling the heartbeat may be helpful in that case. In specific cases, other procedures can be used to treat the heart's electrical system and control the heartbeat this way. If he is experiencing weakness on one side of the body, I would be concerned that he might have had a stroke from the A fib. In any case, it's best that he see his cardiologist and get these concerns addressed promptly. Hope this helps.
